Morphological Operations (Erosion, Dilation)
Overview
The Morphological Operations tool applies erosion, dilation, opening, and closing operations on binary images. These operations use structuring elements to modify shapes. Perfect for noise removal, shape analysis, and feature extraction in binary images.
Tips
- Erosion: shrinks objects, removes small features
- Dilation: expands objects, fills small holes
- Opening: erosion then dilation, removes small objects
- Closing: dilation then erosion, fills small holes
- Structuring element shape affects operation (cross, square, circle)
- Applications: noise removal, shape analysis, OCR preprocessing
- Try different structuring element sizes
