Understanding Bootstrap
Bootstrap resampling is a powerful technique for statistical inference:
- Resampling with replacement: Each bootstrap sample is the same size as the original, drawn randomly with replacement
- Distribution-free: No assumptions about the population distribution required
- Versatile: Works for any statistic, not just means
- Confidence intervals: The percentile method uses the 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles for 95% CI
- Standard error: The standard deviation of bootstrap estimates approximates the standard error
